About BAMBI

BAMBI — the Busselton, Augusta & Margaret River Buddhist Initiative — is a community of volunteers dedicated to making Buddhist meditation and teachings accessible throughout the South West region of Western Australia.

Founded by local practitioners, BAMBI operates across three towns: Margaret River, Busselton and Nannup. We are not a formal religious organisation but a welcoming, inclusive group open to all — whether you are curious about mindfulness, a seasoned meditator, or simply looking for a moment of stillness.

With the recent establishment of a Theravāda monastery nearby, BAMBI now has the great privilege of hosting guided sessions led by two resident monks, offering the community access to authentic Dhamma teachings and structured meditation guidance.

  • Open to all backgrounds, beliefs and experience levels
  • Non-commercial and volunteer-run
  • Rooted in the Theravāda tradition of the Buddha's original teachings
  • Committed to the local community and natural environment

The Monastery & the Monks

Two Buddhist monks of the Theravāda school have recently established a new monastery — Harmony Hermitage — in the Margaret River region, bringing with them decades of monastic training and a deep commitment to sharing the Dhamma.

About the Theravāda Tradition

Theravāda — "the Teaching of the Elders" — is the oldest surviving school of Buddhism, practised widely across Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia. It preserves the Pāli Canon, the most complete collection of the Buddha's original teachings. The tradition emphasises direct meditative experience, ethical conduct (Sīla), mental cultivation (Samādhi) and the development of wisdom (Paññā) as the threefold path to liberation. The forest monastery tradition, brought to the South West through Harmony Hermitage, is particularly focused on deep meditation practice within a natural setting.
